You can see it in the image. Glass container on a dark counter. Chicken and broccoli. Water bottle sweating onto the granite. A coffee mug I didn't wash from this morning, sitting there like evidence of a day that ran long.
Everyone thinks discipline is the big moment. The 5 AM alarm. The PR. The thing you post about.
This is what it actually looks like. 10 PM, kitchen light under the hood vent, packing tomorrow's lunch because if I don't do it now, 6 AM me won't have time. And 6 AM me is a version who doesn't get to make choices — she just executes what 10 PM me decided.
The meal isn't special. Chicken, broccoli, carrots. Same as Tuesday. Same as Thursday. The special part is that I did it anyway, on a night when I wanted to order something greasy and not think about it.
I didn't want to make this meal. I did it because the person I'm becoming doesn't negotiate with the person I used to be. She just packs the container, drinks the water, washes the mug, and goes to sleep so tomorrow can happen the way she planned it.
That's it. One scene. No philosophy.
The meal doesn't care if you feel motivated. It only cares if you showed up.
